FORWARD 2014
Exhibition catalog for The Center for Fine Art Photography's annual Center Forward group exhibition. This edition includes a juror statement from the Center's Director Hamidah Glasgow, an artist spotlight featuring Pat Swain and images from 53 photographers.
Prior to this publication, I had begun choosing the order and pairing of images for a more effective design. The layout of this particular publication was inspired by the major arcana of the tarot. The overarching themes of the images were conducive to Jungian/Jodorowskian arcana interpretation despite being individually chosen by the juror for entirely unrelated reasons. The layout begins with The World and ends at The Fool. Instead feeling as if it were moving forward against the numbered order, or de-evolving, it feels almost nostalgic; looking back at a difficult path, trials and tribulations already overcome. A prayer or wish hidden within the design. Use of Roman numerals hint at the otherwise occulted theme with the image I chose to represent The Judgment. None of this is otherwise communicated or made obvious.
